Alex grew up in Chicago , started smoking at the age of 15 . He always saw his parents smoking and thought it was cool . He wanted to get selected in the army and yes , he did get in to the Air Force at 19 . But as every other job and it’s related stress , Alex increased his smoking eventually to more than 10 cigarettes a day . One fine day he saw his 5 year old daughter imitating his actions of smoking with a pencil in her hand . He was shocked looking at her and told her to stop acting . But things didn’t change with Alex . What happened next ?

Here are some useful tips for you to quit smoking :

  1. FIND A CONCRETE REASON :

    • It is difficult to get motivated if you do not have a valid reason to quit smoking . So sit down and note down the list of reasons for why you want to stop it .

    • Some examples of reasons are lowering the chance of lung cancer and heart diseases , for the improvement of the health of your family members who are affected by passive smoking , look younger again and many more reasons . So , you need to make a list of solid reasons to quit cigarette smoking .

  2. HAVE A BALANCED DIET :

    • Do not try to go on a diet when you decide to quit smoking . Always eat sufficient vegetables , fruits and protein rich diet from time to time . Do not starve yourself or you might face problems and feel like smoking .

    • A research has proved that fruits , vegetables and cheese makes cigarettes taste disturbing whereas meat can make cigarette taste delightful . So swap your food from meat to a fresh pizza .

  3.  REWARD YOURSELF :

    • There is nothing better than rewarding yourself for doing something positive . Calculate the money you would be saving if you stop smoking . There are several calculators available for it online . Once you save enough after you quit smoking , you can reward yourself with something big you always wanted to buy .

  4. KEEP GOOD COMPANY :

    • Try to hang around with your non-smoking friends . Even when you are at a party always try to stay with the non-smoking group . Initially you might feel like a craving to go to the smoking section . But when you think like that , just have a look at the friends who are smoking and have a weird thought in your mind , “Burning a small tube and inhaling smoke ?” isn’t that bizarre . LoL !!

  5. START NICOTINE-REPLACEMENT :

    • At the time when you quit smoking , nicotine gets withdrawn . This may lead to headache or a sudden loss of energy  which may make you crave for at least one cigarette . But during such a situation , stay strong with your decision to quit . You can try using nicotine gum and patches which will help you reduce your cravings and make you successful .

  6. SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS WITH YOUR LOVED ONES :

    •  You can tell your family and friends about your decision to quit smoking . I assure you that they will not only be very happy but also try their best to support you with your decision and help you quit smoking .

    • You will have a feeling of motivation within you . You can try a “Behavioral Therapy” which can help you stick to your decision .

  7. EXERCISE :

    • Exercising is important for your entire body . Studies have proved that if you exercise for some time , it will help you reduce your cravings to smoke .

    • It can be any form of exercise . May it be hitting the gym or jogging in a park . It will be helpful and you will be happy looking at the results of your body’s performance .

  8. AVOID ALCOHOL AND COFFEE :

    • When you consume alcohol , it will trigger your cravings to smoke since cigarette tastes better with alcohol . So it is advisable to stop or limit your alcohol intake for time being . Coffee may also trigger your cravings , so switch to tea temporarily .

Alex never realized that smoking was silently killing him . One fine day when he was on duty , he collapsed all of sudden and died . The doctors said that his heart was damaged to an irreparable extent due to his excessive smoking habits . Now Laila , his only daughter strives to help more sons and daughters not to their dad to the devil of smoking .
